Panic Sets Boundaries on AI-Generated Games for Playdate

Panic, the company behind Playdate, has announced it will no longer accept games made with generative AI in its catalog. The decision, effective immediately, applies to AI-generated art, audio, music, text, and dialog. Developers can still use AI assistance for coding, but not for core game elements.
The policy was announced via an AI disclosure released this month and is part of Panic’s broader push for transparency and artistic integrity. Previously-approved AI-generated games will not be removed from the catalog, but titles using AI will be flagged.
The policy change comes as Playdate prepares to release new titles. Developers must flag titles that use AI, but are not required to disclose AI use. This move sets Playdate apart from other game console manufacturers.
