Apple Watch Import Ban Lifted as ITC Closes Case

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has decided to close the case involving an import ban on certain Apple Watch models, effectively ending the patent dispute with medical technology company Masimo. The dispute centered on patents related to the Apple Watch’s blood oxygen feature. Masimo had accused Apple of infringing on its patents with the Apple Watch’s ability to measure blood oxygen levels.
The ITC’s decision removes a significant overhang on Apple’s wearable device business, which includes the Apple Watch, a key contributor to Apple’s revenue. The company can now continue to import and sell the affected Apple Watch models without disruption.
The ruling does not necessarily mean that Apple has been cleared of any wrongdoing or that Masimo’s patents were not infringed. The two companies may continue to engage in negotiations to resolve their differences.
The Apple Watch has become an increasingly important product line for Apple, playing a critical role in the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the wearables market.
